How to Change Your Life

Are you happy with the life that you are living? Do you know how to change the parts of life that aren’t working for you? Most of us continue to be unhappy or discontented with many aspects of our lives without really knowing how to change. We go around blaming others for what we think and how we feel because this is what we have been brought up to do… and isn’t that much easier than looking at ourselves and taking responsibility for what we ourselves have created?

Does that surprise you – the concept that you have created your own life? Perhaps you have always believed that you are the victim of circumstances. Well there are many spiritual and other texts[1] based around the law of attraction, financial success and abundance that will tell you otherwise. They will tell you that the life you are living right now is simply an effect – an out-picturing of all your previous thoughts and life beliefs up to now. Basically your thoughts and beliefs throughout your life are the cause of your current circumstances.

Let’s look into this a bit further. If you examine each area of your life where you have experienced unhappiness or discontent, you may be able to see where erroneous thoughts and beliefs have not served your own best interests. For example, negative thoughts around relationships and love can lead to bad communication and patterns of behaviour in relationships. It is hard to be happy when you experience troubled relationships.

If you look at your current job, you will be earning around the level of salary that you believe you deserve (or less). If you look at the higher paid jobs, you will probably tell yourself “I could never do that” or “They would never pay me that much”. You are hardly likely to apply for these jobs because you already believe that you wouldn’t get them. And there many people stay stuck!

If you have low self-esteem or negative self-worth, you will probably not push to better yourself in life or to learn new skills. Perhaps you won’t look after your body or give yourself the time you need to relax and recuperate. Perhaps you will be a ‘holic or a perfectionist, become co-dependent or suffer from OCD. All these tendencies come from the ways that you think and the beliefs that you have. So yes, it is these thoughts and beliefs, amongst others, that are the underlying causes of the life that you live and the ways in which you experience it.

Despite the fact that human beings have amazing potential, most people stick within their comfort zone and are very afraid of making changes, even when something isn’t working. Playing the victim keeps many stuck in ineffective patterns without the need for change on their part. But this rarely makes them happy. So, how do you change the things in life that you are not happy with?

If your life is an effect of all your thoughts and beliefs up to now, the only way to change is to change the underlying thoughts and beliefs. You can only change the effect by changing the cause. If you want to change your life, then you must change the way that you think and this will change the way that you act. Replacing negative ways of thinking with positive, working on your self-esteem and looking at the patterns in your relationships and beliefs around your job-status are good places to start. Replacing ineffective patterns of communication with those that work will help you get your needs met and create the life you desire.

You may need some help but there is plenty available. For example, you can use affirmations, hypnosis and self-hypnosis, positive thinking techniques, guided visualisations, CBT, meditation, self-improvement books and courses, go into therapy or get a life coach. All these can help you to improve your life by changing the way that you think. For most people only a small part of the potential of the mind is ever used. Are you ready to start fulfilling your potential and change your life for the better? Then it’s time to change your mind.
